Our Timeline

2017

Where Our Vision Took Flight

National Youth Bike Council began in January 2017, founded by a small group of passionate youth from Philadelphia and Seattle who wanted to unite young people as leaders in the cycling community. What started as a group chat soon grew into a network of youth leaders nationwide, driven by the belief that they could build the council they envisioned.

Why Bicycles

By starting the conversation about bicycles at an early age, young people can reap the benefits of good health and mental wellness for a lifetime. We believe that access to a community provides the opportunity for peer collaboration, shared interests, and a strong sense of engagement. This is why engaging young people in bicycles is part of the bigger picture for a more collaborative, environmentally sustainable, and connected world.

What is a Council
member?

Leadership starts with writing and
we write about bicycling

A national leadership and writing program for youth ages 13–24 that develops storytelling, public speaking, and civic engagement skills among student advocates through published works. As an organization we uplift youth voice so it’s important that youth know how to express their opinions and feel heard. Self development comes from reflecting within and that’s done through becoming a council member.

**This initiative creates community for youth, uses education to expand access to leadership opportunities, and encourages healthy habits through bicycling.

Apply to become a Council Member

Bicycles build leadership, so we find joy in writing about bicycles together.
